A Head Start teacher's primary responsibility is to foster the social, emotional, intellectual, language, and physical development of preschool children in a safe and supervised educational environment. They develop and implement individualized and group educational plans, create partnerships with families, and ensure program quality aligns with Head Start standards. This includes promoting school readiness, providing a positive learning environment, and collaborating with parents to support their child's development.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum and Instruction:
Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans, activities, and learning experiences that support children's growth in various domains.
Classroom Management:
Create a positive and engaging learning environment, guide children's behavior, and ensure a safe and healthy classroom setting.
Family Engagement:
Build strong partnerships with families, communicate regularly about child progress, and involve parents in the program through various activities and home visits.
Assessment and Documentation:
Monitor children's progress, document their development, and conduct assessments to inform instruction and identify areas for support.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with assistant teachers, aides, and volunteers, and participate in staff meetings and professional development activities.
Emergency Response:
Respond to emergency situations, provide first aid when needed, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in their care.
Compliance:
Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards, state regulations, and other relevant guidelines.
Other Duties:
Participate in meal preparation and service, maintain a clean and organized classroom, and assist with other tasks as needed.
