Description

A teacher's job description includes planning and delivering lessons, creating a positive learning environment, and assessing student progress through assignments and tests. Teachers also communicate with parents, manage classroom behavior, and participate in professional development to support student growth both academically and socially.  
 
Core responsibilities
Instruction: 
Present learning materials through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations to a class or small groups. 
 
Student assessment: 
Create, administer, and grade assignments, quizzes, and tests to evaluate student progress. 
 
Classroom management: 
Establish and enforce classroom rules to maintain an orderly and safe learning environment. 
 
Student support: 
Work with students individually to help with challenges, adapt teaching methods for diverse learning styles, and encourage participation. 
 
Communication and collaboration
Parent communication: 
Regularly update parents or guardians on their child's academic progress and behavior. 
 
Collaboration: 
Work with other teachers, staff, and administrators to improve educational experiences. 
 
Professional development
Continuing education: Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on teaching methods and educational trends. 
 
Record keeping: Maintain records of student progress, attendance, and behavior. 

Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in education or a specific subject area is typically required.
  • Certification/Licensing: A valid state-issued teaching license, certification, or credential for the corresponding age/grade level is often mandatory for public schools.
  • Experience: Previous teaching or student-teaching experience is preferred.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
    • Patience & Empathy: The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and handle challenging situations calmly and with understanding.
